# Audit a Joomla site's SEO with PageAudit

Fill in the site description and the title of each menu item, turn on robots.txt and friendly URLs and audit.

PageAudit · Updated 2026-10-16

## Step 1. Fill in the title and description

In System, Global Configuration, Site tab, fill in the site meta description. On each menu item, the Page Display and Metadata tabs hold the browser page title and the meta description.

## Step 2. Turn on robots.txt and friendly URLs

In the site root, run the commands: Joomla ships both files under another name. Then turn on URL rewriting in Global Configuration. Joomla does not write a sitemap: use an extension and send its address to Google Search Console.

```sh
cp robots.txt.dist robots.txt
mv htaccess.txt .htaccess
```

## Step 3. Audit the published page

Change the address to an article page. The answer brings the score, the counts and each error with its fix. No key: 10 free audits a day.

```sh
curl -sS -X POST https://pageaudit.online/api/audit \
  -H 'content-type: application/json' \
  -d '{"url": "https://example.com/"}'
```
